President’s Council

The President’s Council is a distinguished and caring group of business and community leaders from the Washington, D.C., area who meet to provide Jim Malloy with support and insight in his role as president and CEO.

Austin Herndon is the council chair.

The council consists of more than 100 members who meet two or three times a year.  Members have no governance duties, but, rather, meet to participate in discussions about the agency’s activities and future course. Meetings include updates from the senior leadership of Catholic Charities, which can include financial and program updates and strategic goals.  Each meeting includes a guest speaker, who shares his or her leadership experience and insight.

Engagement Opportunities

We encourage the members of the President’s Council to search the agency’s volunteer opportunities (accommodating your schedule) and to be involved, as your schedule allows, in serving those in need in our area.  Opportunities include:

Christmas Star

Adopt a child or family to provide a Christmas present.

St. Maria’s Meals

Serve dinner to unhoused men and women in downtown D.C. on Wednesday evenings.

Welcome Home Reentry

Engage in one-on-one mentoring for individuals returning from incarceration.

Legal Network

Provide a range of pro bono legal services on civil cases.
