The Southern Maryland Caritas! volunteer recognition luncheon was a heartwarming event celebrating the dedicated volunteers who support our important missions of combating food insecurity through the Southern Maryland Food Bank and providing holistic family support for housing at Angel’s Watch.

The event featured reflections from volunteers Joe Ward and Frances Latney, who shared their experiences of working with the programs. Kathy Ruben, program manager at Angel’s Watch, and George Mattingly, program manager at the Southern Maryland Food Bank, expressed their gratitude to all the volunteers and partners who collaborate with Catholic Charities to make a positive impact in the community.

President and CEO Jim Malloy spoke to the attendees, praising volunteers for their commitment and describing their actions as they “all run to the sound of need.”

Frances Latney was honored for her service at the Southern Maryland Food Bank by George Mattingly, food bank and outreach manager. “I enjoy supporting the food bank. It’s an opportunity to assist those facing hunger,” she said.
Joe Ward was honored for his service to Angel’s Watch family shelter. “I love being a part of this program, and I am glad that I have found a place to volunteer my time to a cause that means a lot to me,” he said.
