Graduation is an excellent time for friends and family to come together and celebrate a student’s achievements. This year, on a warm and sunny August day, two families gathered at Kennedy School to applaud their graduates’ hard work.
Located in Northeast D.C., the Kennedy School is a non-public day school for children and young adults, aged six to 22, who have developmental differences. The school specializes in helping students with autism, traumatic brain injuries, intellectual, emotional, and learning disabilities.
Speakers at the ceremony included Dr. Cheryll James, principal of the Kennedy School, who fondly remembered the graduates’ first days at the school.

“As I look out at our graduates, I am reminded of their first days here at Kennedy, and since then, both have grown by leaps and bounds,” James said. “Throughout their years at the school, both have demonstrated growth academically and socially. Their perseverance and commitment allowed them to reach today’s graduation milestone.”
The 2025 graduates, Kaliel and Tania, never gave up and tackled each challenge with grace and optimism. During their time at the Kennedy School, both students participated in various activities, including the Summer Youth Employment Program.
Upon graduation, Kaliel will be enrolled in the United Planning Organization. Tania will be attending a Vocational Day Program where she will continue working on her vocational, independent and communication skills.
