The 39th annual Catholic Charities Gala drew almost 1,000 people to festivities at the Washington Hilton. Hosted by co-chairs Vince and Kate Burke, Billy and Egan Cannon and Dave and Regina DiLuigi, the event raised $3.15 million, ensuring that Catholic Charities’ mission of caring, compassion and service lives on.

Board Chair John Veihmeyer told guests that the Board of Directors believes “that Catholic Charities is not only the most comprehensive social services provider to low-income people in the area, but is also the most effective and, undoubtedly, the most compassionate and caring.”
Gala Co-Chair Vince Burke described the gala’s six co-chairs as representing “the agency’s proud history, critical work today, and a future of possibilities.”
“The staff and volunteers at Catholic Charities live the message in Matthew’s Gospel where Jesus says, ‘Whatever you did for the least of my brothers and sisters, you did for me,’” Gala Co-Chair Dave DiLuigi said.
Cardinal Wilton Gregory
Egan Cannon, a member of the 83.33 Society, said the 83.33 group and the Enzler Society “are the next generation of Catholic Charities supporters. They represent the future of Catholic Charities and the agency’s ability to sustain the life-changing services that mean so much to our community.”
“We gather this evening to acknowledge those needs in our community, recognize and celebrate the extraordinary work of our staff and volunteers, and pass along our deep appreciation for the generous and caring hearts of our donors,” President and CEO Jim Malloy told guests.
“Our mission of helping to move individuals and families toward dignity and self-sufficiency is possible only when we — staff, volunteers, donors — work as one,” Board Vice Chair Michael Steele told guests. He and John Veihmeyer led a “Fund the Mission” moment.
The live “Fund the Mission” raised $200,000.
Co-Chair Billy Cannon announced the gala fundraising total of $3.15 million, which beat expectations.
“We hope to see all of you right back here next year — on April 5, 2025 — for the 2025 Catholic Charities Gala,” Jim Malloy said in closing remarks.
A crowded dance floor welcomed the entertainment — Bryen O’Boyle of Mr. Greengenes.
Three families will co-chair the 2025 Gala. With their leadership, the 2025 Gala will be another very special event.
