Dorothy Day Place Job Search Support

Dorothy Day Place is a transitional shelter for up to 37 single adult men and women. The Shelter is a crucial bridge between homelessness and permanent housing. It provides case management services, substance abuse counseling, education programs, employment services, and connections to community resources for adults experiencing homelessness and struggling with drug and alcohol addiction and/or chronic mental health issues.

Job Search Support Volunteers will work one-on-one with residents of Dorothy Day Place to submit online applications for jobs. Your support will teach residents how to search for and apply for jobs and boost their confidence. You will help them find employment and move towards self-reliance, stability, and independence.

Volunteers will:

  • Talk with residents about their interests and skills and review informal personal statements prepared by residents
  • Help residents search for and identify job opportunities
  • Work with residents to submit 1-3 online job applications
  • Bring a laptop with the ability to connect to wi-fi internet to use during the project

Desired Skills, Experience & Characteristics:

  • Experience searching and applying for jobs online
  • Experience as a recruiter or hiring manager would be a plus
  • Strong writer, especially of “job application” type language
  • Computer Skills

Qualifications:

  • Must bring a laptop with the ability to connect to wi-fi internet to use during the project
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have at least one year of work experience

  • Friday, September 21, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

  • Dorothy day Place is a short 5-minute walk from the White Flint red line metro station
  • Free parking is available in front of the Dorothy Day Place entrance
