Developmental Disabilities Services

Catholic Charities' Developmental Disabilities Services provide opportunities for a fulfilling future to individuals with developmental disabilities. Our programs are here to support them and their families and caretakers. We believe in the potential and talent of each person to contribute to and participate in their community. Our programs are a reflection of that belief.

A Note about our Community Living Residential Program: We are in the process of transitioning the management of this program to another qualified provider. This was not an easy decision for us, as this is a wonderful support for people we have been involved with for many years. Yet, as federal rules change to try and grant each person greater freedom, which we agree with for all people in need of these supports, it is clear that we cannot maintain our small program in a way that is financially sustainable.  It is our plan to offer a transition that will minimize disruption to the people we serve. All of our other supports for people with a developmental and/or intellectual disability will continue to operate fully as we remain committed to providing supports and opportunity to this population, our neighbors

Offering service that is culturally competent and focused on personal development and enrichment, our programs work with adults and children with developmental disabilities, as well as their caretakers and families.

  • The Kennedy School works with children and teens with disabilities offering personalized academic, therapeutic and vocational classes for students ages 6 to 22.
  • Community Companions is an after-school program that continues the learning after the school day ends.
  • Community Options is a day program for adults with severe health issues for whom working is not an option. We take trips into the community, go bowling, take walks in the park and dine out together.
  • Supported Employment Programs, located in Washington, DC, Montgomery County, Prince George's County and Southern Maryland get adults with developmental disabilities into the work force, partnering with employers and maintaining a close relationship with each consumer to help them thrive.
  • Community Living is an independent living program where consumers live on their own and with the support of staff available on-call 24 hours a day.
  • Early Childhood Development and Intervention is open to typically developing children and children with disabilities ages six weeks to three years. The program focuses on early intervention and development in an inclusive and educational environment.
  • The Carl P. Srsic Memorial Fund supports aging in place for adults with intellectual developmental disability and dementia, their families and the people who serve them.
