Mariel perez-santiago, Staff Attorney

Mariel Perez-Santiago joined the Catholic Charities’ Immigration Legal Services team in September 2021. She previously worked with the family detention team at RAICES in Texas, providing legal services to families and individuals in expedited removal. She graduated from Stanford Law School, where she participated in the Immigrants’ Rights Clinic and worked as an intern for RAICES in Texas and the National Immigration Law Center in Los Angeles. Before law school, she worked as a researcher and policy advocate at Human Rights First in DC. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Latin American studies from The University of Texas at Austin, where she specialized in human rights and conducted fieldwork on paramilitary groups in Colombia. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Baylor University. She is fluent in Spanish and French and is a member of the Texas Bar. She is thrilled to use her law degree to serve and empower the immigrant community in the D.C. region.
