Celia Rivas, Immigrant Services Coordinator

Celia Rivas obtained a law degree from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in 1986 and received a Masters in Law Degree from Howard University in 1993.  Currently, Celia is a Department of Justice (DOJ) Fully Accredited Legal Representative.  Celia joined Catholic Charities in 1991 and is widely known for her immigration expertise throughout the Greater Washington area and often serves as an advisor to area officials in Washington concerned with the impact of new policies on the immigrant community. Celia was appointed by the Governor to the Maryland Advisory Council for New Americans and serves on the advisory panel of the Citizenship and Immigration Services Headquarters and District Offices. In 2008, she was appointed by the Montgomery County Executive, Ike Leggett, to be a member of the Latin American Advisory Group. In 2002, Celia was awarded the Archdiocese of Washington D.C.’s Order of Merit and has also received the Person of Character Award from the City of Gaithersburg. Celia speaks Spanish fluently.
