Current undergraduate students are invited to serve with us during Summer 2021. Please scroll down for a full list of available summer intern positions.  Exact schedules can be coordinated with individual intern supervisors. While we expect the majority of our interns to work remotely, there may be some need for in-person work depending on the position.  Interns will develop a broad set of skills in a professional setting and have opportunities for:

Internship Opportunities

Majors: Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, or English

The Development and Communications intern will create a website and social media content for our annual Angel Tree program, develop ideas for storytelling, write and publish posts for Catholic Charities’ Open Door blog, and assist with the 2021 agency Annual Report. The intern will get experience writing for the web and creating social media posts. They will also learn and develop skills relating to storytelling, communications and graphics and design principles, copyright laws, as well as the procedures governed by Catholic Charities’ Communications department. Applicants should possess the following skills:

  • Strong writing
  • Ability to identify and tell stories
  • Social media
  • Time-management
  • Some WordPress knowledge preferred

Majors: Pre-Dental

The Dental Service intern will assist with patients and create dental education material. The intern will learn basic dental practices, as well as healthcare integration and chairside manners. Applicants should possess the following skills:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Some knowledge of dentistry
  • Customer service
  • Computer literate

Majors: Applicant should have an interest in housing and urban development and working with the community

This position may require in-person work depending on the current public health crisis. 

The Family Re-Housing Stabilization intern will develop a system for maintain contacts with private landlords, create a community resource hub for clients, and help update current and former case files. The intern will learn how to properly manage and document case files, strengthen their problem-solving skills, and how to perform community outreach. Applicants should possess the following skills:

  • Attention to detail
  • Research skills
  • Clear written and oral communication
  • Good customer service and comfortable talking on the phone

Majors: Sociology, Social Work, Political Science, Psychology, or other related fields

The Trafficking Victims Assistance Program (TVAP) intern will collaborate with colleagues to deliver direct client services to survivors, develop and present trauma-informed training, and work with clients to develop interpersonal and case management skills. Interns will learn what direct service to survivors of human trafficking looks like. Applicants should possess the following skills:

  • Interpersonal skills to work with clients and collaborate with staff
  • Presentation skills to perform outreach and conduct workshops
  • Strong analytical and research skills

Majors: Seminarians or postulants preferred

The Parish Partners intern will complete intakes with families facing emergency needs, conduct research call with parish leaders to identify ministry training needs, and update our domestic violence ministry resources. Through this experience the intern will learn about Catholic Social Teaching and its potential to enhance parish ministry, interview techniques with people facing emergency situations, and how to develop parish resources. Applicants should possess the following skills:

  • Spanish fluency preferred
  • Interest in accompanying people in need
  • Public speaking
  • Knowledge or interest in parish ministry

Majors: Nursing, Public Health, or related fields

The intern for the Quality Assurance team will fill an administrative role on the team to ensure the completion of several key projects.  The intern will develop a Risk Management Plan for the department as well as work on data visualization projects for local hospitals. The intern will learn how to work with multidisciplinary teams, develop procedures, and analyze data. Applicants should possess the following skills:

  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Experience in data analytics
  • Willingness to learn

Majors: Social Services, Social Work

The Sanctuaries for Life intern will make assessments regarding the medical, social, and tangible needs of our clients, as well as provide resources to pregnant immigrant women. The intern will learn how to conduct intakes, support women seeking prenatal care, and conduct case management with existing clients. Applicants should possess the following skills:

  • Spanish fluency preferred
  • Familiarity with Office 365 applications
  • Experience working with databases

Majors: Social Work or Psychology

The intern for St. Jude’s Project will carry a caseload of 2 clients while working on a group therapy curriculum. The intern will also identify additional grant opportunities. Through this experience the intern will learn about motivational interviewing and systems theory. Applicants should possess the following skills:

  • Interpersonal skills
  • Office 365
  • Well-organized

Majors: Open to any who would like to learn more about volunteer management and engagement

The intern for the Volunteer Engagement Office will help manage the volunteer database, communicate with potential and current volunteers, and assist with the planning and execution of volunteer projects and other special events. Through this experience the intern will learn the basics of volunteer management, how to organize a project, and how to collaborate with team members across the agency. Applicants should possess the following skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player
  • Previous experience working with databases a plus, but not required
  • Attention to detail
  • Public speaking
