Adults and Families in Crisis
Many adults and their families walk through that door at one of our family centers. Located strategically throughout the Washington area, they provide emergency food and housing assistance, access to clinical social workers, health and wellness classes, job training, and much more. One center, the Montgomery Family Center, stands out. A diverse multi-lingual staff offers help and hope in a dozen languages, catering to the growing immigrant population in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Whatever the challenge, we open a single door to help and hope.
Our Philosophy
The ability to find and keep a good paying job is a major challenge for people who are undereducated. In Washington, D.C., one-third of people over the age of 16 don’t have high school diplomas, and two-thirds of city residents are functionally illiterate.
Economic self-sufficiency begins with education. Adults come to us to help jumpstart their education and to achieve financial stability. Our programs offer a menu of courses designed to help adults, and their families, become economically secure. It might be a single mom who is working and taking GED classes, while juggling the demands of child care. Or, it might be a young man who dropped out of school, but always dreamed of being an entrepreneur, and needs to learn to read before heading back to the classroom.
