Employment Programs

A program of the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Institute

We provide support and guidance for young adults and adults with developmental disabilities who have little to no work history entering the workforce. Through adaptive programing, a dedicated staff, open partnerships with businesses, families and community members, we find new opportunities for our consumers to grow, share and develop as independent adults. We also work closely with families with teenage children, helping consumers access career-track training and employment in high-growth fields.

Services

Intake:  All program participants living in the District must be referred by the DC Office of Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA). In Maryland, referrals may come from the Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) or the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA).

Employment:  Our Employment Specialists work one-on-one with adults with a developmental disability  to help identify their strengths and interests, develop the needed skills, help place them in a good work environment and provide ongoing support to ensure success. If an employment situation is deemed a bad fit, we work to find a better solution for the consumer.

Education: Our program also features an adult education component following the PLATO. Classes are offered in the morning and evening. Referrals to the education component come through DC Employment Services.

Get Involved in Our Work!

Donate: Employment provides an opportunity to grow and live independent. With our help, many adults are overcoming their disability to get that first job. Join us in our effort - make a donation directly to the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Institute.

Employers: Do you have an entry level job opening that would be a great fit for an adult with developmental disabilities? Make your next hire a Kennedy Institute hire! Our staff provide ongoing training to ensure you get an employee who is reliable and gets the job done well. For more information, contact the office nearest where you work. Thank you!

Partnerships

Our work is only possible thanks to some great community partners who give the Kennedy Institute the opportunity to serve others:
